How about a square barrel from the Meiji era as a flower vase for celebrations? We have two in stock. A kakutaru is a barrel filled with sake that is used as a gift for auspicious occasions such as weddings, betrothals, and housewarmings. Generally speaking, it refers to a lacquered barrel with two tall handles, but a kakutaru also refers to a barrel coated with red lacquer and tied with a thick bamboo hoop. The original form of the kakutaru is said to be a ``yanagidaru,'' a container for transporting sake that was used around the Muromachi period. It is believed that during the Edo period, it began to be used as a gift for celebratory occasions such as weddings, festivals, and ceremonial events, and took on its current form.
